Unbelievable! We will be heading to India in 10 days! It's finally sinking in as we're figuring out what to fill our relatively limited backpacks with. I (Heidi) decided to travel up and down and around India with a suitcase last year, and amongst the sea of worn backpacks and muddied makeshift packages and parcels, my suitcase looked quite odd indeed. So backpack it is this year :)
Imagine Jordi is now an art sale!! We still have a good number of artwork that is available for sale and is hanging in Firehook Bakery and Coffee House in Old Town Alexandria. The manager of Firehook has been gracious enough to keep the artwork up there for as long as it takes to sell! So if you were unable to make it during the weekend of May 16th, please consider dropping by to take a look at what we have. A number of people have asked about the possibility of ordering prints online, so that they may be delivered to places all over the world - making this a truly global endeavor. We would love to post images of print online, if we get the consent of the artists, so please stay tuned! :) We envision Imagine Jordi to be an ongoing partnership with HELP, so even after we return from India, and head off to NC State for graduate school this fall, our goal is to keep support the faithful teachers and staff of Jordi village's school through money, letters of encouragement and prayer.

THANKS SO MUCH!
To everyone who has contributed in some way, whether it's donating artwork, taking off work to visit the auction, braving the traffic to drive to Old Town Alexandria, sending prayers of encouragement, THANK YOU!! :)
On Saturday, May 16th, after a whole day of beautiful weather when it was projected to rain, serenaded by an acoustic guitar, keyboard, smooth vocals (George and Brian from the WAAC Band) and a cool breeze through an open window, we concluded this segment of Imagine Jordi.
Just over half of the artwork were bid on, and we are now in the process of reuniting the pieces with their new happy owners. The remainder of the artwork is STILL on display at Firehook Cafe! The shop owner and manager have been incredibly gracious with allowing us to use their wall space indefinitely until all the artwork is sold (they even bought several pieces!), so if you weren't able to make it down to the auction last weekend, please check it out if you have a chance! :)
As of right now, we have raised about $3000, but the contributions are still coming in! We will try to get a digital thumbnail of the remaining pieces up on this site, so if you'd like to bid virtually you can :)
Just so you have an idea of how this money will be used in Jordi, here's a breakdown of the building costs.
Iron Rod Rs 90000 US$ 2000
Cement Rs 80000 US$ 1800
Concrete Rs 50000 US$ 1200
Doors and Windows Rs 60000 US$ 1300
Labour Rs100000 US$ 2250
Total Rs380000 US$8550 (approx.)
We have quite a number of pictures from the auction weekend, which we will put up asap.
Please continue to check this site for updates, and remember us in your prayers!
